Specialist Wedding/Documentary Photography

This online course teaches you the fundamentals of wedding and documentary photography to an expert level of knowledge. It will allow you to use these many aspects of photography with master precision, enabling you to take the right shots every time.

Have you ever seen truly amazing photographs and wished you could take images like a professional?
On this course you will be taught the same fundamentals which those professionals use, all from the comfort of your own computer.

To get the most from our specialist courses you need to already have some basic photographic skills.  These should include: an appreciation and creative use of the main rules of composition, an understanding of shutter speed and aperture (and the effects that these have on the final image), and a fluency with your camera controls, including the use of the histogram and the pros and cons of jpg verse RAW file formats.  If you feel you are lacking in any of these skills you should seriously consider first working through our Foundation Suite. Please talk to Brian if you feel you need further advice before booking.

Structure Please Note Support Assessment Progression Funding Qualifications
Unit One: Introduction to Wedding Photography
This unit will take you through the basics of good wedding photography. You will cover a number of highly effective techniques and hints and within a short period of time your skills will come on in leaps and bounds.

Unit Two: The Shot List
A well-planned shot list will make your work as a wedding photographer a lot easier, and will ensure that you don't miss anything. This unit looks at the how and why, and will give you strategies to get the best sellable shots possible.

Unit Three: Group Photography
There is nothing like a group portrait to scare the amateur photographer. This unit looks at ways to create group portraits though effective composition and photographic techniques.

Unit Four: Documentary/Reportage Photography
In documentary/reportage photography the photographer attempts to produce objective, truthful, and candid images of a particular subject. This unit looks at strategies to achieve powerful and compelling images of people in their environment.

Unit Five: Themed Brief
This final unit is primarily concerned with the consolidation and refinement of your photographic and conceptual skills relating to the wedding / documentary genre through a considered body of work. We would expect you to document a large event such as a wedding or a community event, and build a body of work that captures the essence of the day.

We highly recommend that you read our Policies and FAQ sections prior to booking.

Please note that to get the most out of this course you will ideally have a bridge camera or a DSLR camera, along with a tripod. While it is possible to use more basic kit for this course you will find yourself limited at times. If you are unsure about the suitability of your equipment please ring Brian to discuss your options.

We would normally recommend students start at the beginning (First Steps), as we have found that self taught students normally have gaps in their skills. Saying this we are quite happy for students to enrol on to more advanced courses if they feel ready for it or if they have completed a course previously.

All DMC students have their own personal tutor, helping them with their course work. They can contact their personal tutor by email or phone for all the practical advice they may need.

We also have a Facebook group where students can interact with other students and share and discuss their images.

We are dedicated to your learning and we really are with you 100% of the way. You will have access to Our online student learning area, where you can access your learning materials. All submissions and feedbacks are completed through this portal.
Our course is designed to build your skills over a longer time frame. With this in mind you have 12 months to complete all of the units, although you can of course finish earlier. We always aim to return your submissions with a written feedback within 7 working days. If for any reason you need to extend your course beyond the 12 months please contact your tutor.

Your work is assessed on a unit by unit basis, with your personal tutor only moving you on the the next unit when they feel you have reached the required skill level. On completion of the course you will be awarded the DigitalMasterclass certificate. Your certificate will normally be posted to you within 14 days of completion.

Students that have chosen the accreditation route will build a small portfolio of work for submission to OCN at the end of the course. Your personal tutor will help you to build this submission and work with you to insure your achievement.

Once completed your submission will be internally moderated, then externally verified and accredited by OCN. This process can take a number of weeks after which your certificate will be posted to you.

Once you complete this specialist photography course you might consider some of our other specialist courses. It is always good to look to continue your learning and push your photography to the next level
There is a chance you could have your course fees paid by a funding body. This will depend on your financial and personal situation, but because our courses are externally accredited and certified by an nationally recognised awarding body you are more likely to have your claim for assistance approved. Click Here for more information.

All of our courses, workshops and experience day can be paid with our interest free Student Account. As you add courses to your basket you will see the student account option. As you proceed through the payment process you can choose to pay with this option. Your first payment will be taken at this stage and you monthly payments will be taken monthly there after.
DMC Wedding and Documentary Photography and
Documentary Photography Level 3 optional OCN Accreditation £80

All of our courses are accredited by The Open College Network (OCN), a leading UK Awarding Organisation. This course has been accredited as a Level 3 (A Level marking level equivalent), and the skills learnt will enable you to complete the OCN accreditation "Documentary Photography".

As not everybody requires a qualification this accreditation is offered as a add-on extra to your course. However, as we have found that building the OCN submission enables you to re-evaluate your learning in a holistic way we strongly recommend you completing the OCN option even if the qualification is not important to you. This process really helps to consolidate your retention of your new photographic skills.
